Name: C.K. or Chester

Age: 36, nearly 37, growing old mandatory, growing up optional

I mostly post about: Culture Club/Boy George & Jon Moss (my hyperfixation of 22 years and counting), Linkin Park, wrestling (classic SMW/WWF, Jim Cornette, and my deeply cursed WWE 2K25 Universe), my OCs who are realer to me than most people, witchcraft/spirit work/folk healing/moon rituals/grief magic, retro gaming, emotional overshares that read like journal entries from a possessed poet, fanfiction that makes people unwell at 2am, chaos, and the occasional Reddit food rabbit hole

My hobbies are: Writing fic that's 70% emotional breakdown, 20% worldbuilding, and 10% people getting railed in a meaningful way, hexing cults with sigils and sass, collecting music like a religion, drawing OCs, being a haunted glitter goblin with eyeliner and vengeance, building 48-year fanfiction universes with fully documented timelines and named children, going to work like a normal person and coming home a completely different entity

My fandoms are: Culture Club (I'm writing a massive AU called Colour By Numbers spanning 1978-2026, and a supernatural [not the show] fic called The Rhythm of the Hollow), Linkin Park (Bennoda forever), wrestling (SMW/WWF/WCW but mainly the universes in my head)

I'm looking for people who: are too weird for Reddit, too raw for Instagram, too smart for Twitter/X, overshare about their OCs like a religion, cry over character development, understand that Jon Moss deserved better, write long posts, and don't find it weird that I've named all the children in my fictional universe including the surprise baby

My posting schedule: Erratic. Sometimes a lot. Sometimes I vanish for three weeks and return with an entire AU timeline and a new OC

Dealbreakers: Racism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, antisemitism, being a dick, Scientology apologists, anyone who thinks Mike Shinoda is evil because of an Instagram reel, "isn't wrestling fake?", "you still like Linkin Park?"

Before adding me: I'm a trans man (he/him, they/them). Autistic and ADHD. I write mpreg unapologetically. I am a Zionist and tired of explaining what that actually means. Pro-AI. I smoke weed. I am extremely defensive of Jon Moss and will write essays about it. My AO3 is CampCornette69 and yes that's a wrestling reference

This is the first weekend in a long time for which I had no outside plans, and it was sunny and I was so looking forward to going for a walk, but instead I was sick in bed. Uuuuugh.

But it is the last day of February so have some last-minute recs for some of my favorite Yuletide 2025 fics with no canon knowledge required.

I thought it had gone quiet around here
then I realised Ao3 feeds I follow are just giving errors
and also that I seem to be the only one using them.

... I am way too tired this week to do the thinking on this one but if I write it down I may remember there was a thing to think on.

I have been reading fanfic this week between the Noisy bits.
... there are a Lot of Noisy Bits.

I keep reading fic where they didn't do it the way I would and this has an obvious solution.
At some point writing could happen.

But's it's stuff like crossovers that keep one half as a guest star who doesn't say much, when it was his fandom tag I was working through. I don't know what I would have Constantine say about Dresden Files but it would be something from his own point of view. We would know where in his canon he was. It would be distinctly relevant, given all the everything.

... also the argument you shouldn't tell a guy he is stories in your universe because he'll get mad at the writers
(which the fic made due to Dresden having read all of Hellblazer but just not dealing with that out loud)
doesn't really hold up because multiverse
(too many canons for one version to live, writers clearly not to blame for the existence of infinite possibility)
and also
https://screenrant.com/constantine-real-life-alan-moore-dc-comics/
https://www.vulture.com/2014/10/secret-history-of-john-constantine.html
of all people, he *knows*.

... I am aware of the logical reasons for the writers seeing a bloke in a trenchcoat, and yet.

I read some Labyrinth fic as well that was going well until it seemed to believe Jareth about Jareth.
*do as I say* / and I will be your slave
is not an offer.

So I would write that whole thing very much a different way up.

But then what is the attraction of it? If I'd only go there to change one character.
Tricky to then make it what anyone in the tag is even looking for.

Constantine and Jareth and Dresden are making me have a think about characters attitudes to women.
And what makes them interesting despite them.

Constantine is left the least problematic these days, pretty much because his canon is most recent (that I have read, I gave up on Dresden with Side Jobs apparently, and stalled on a reread lately on Fool Moon because that was not a point of view I was having fun in)(also I have the TV series but remember it not. Hmm, shouldn't have opinions on Dresden then.).

Reading one Hellblazer writer's attitude to John using up his friends and throwing them away... I mean apart from wondering why he wrote him that way if he didn't like it, I'd say that isn't what the Constantine TV show did, even when it was. They kept him more knife edge, so you could interpret him either way, like he was trying his best or like he was tricking his nearest into things. The ambiguity is part of what makes him compelling I feel. If he lands all good or all bad then he's not really Conjob any more, you know?
But the further away from original cultural context you get then the more it'll land different.
The balance tips without the story changing.

Also, fanfic is written by a different demographic than the original comics, mostly.

Things get spun different or rolled out in a new direction.

I do keep wanting to write the man but I also don't want to color inside the lines, so I have in fact got a new trenchcoat in mind and should give him a name.

Making Constantine a timeline sliding archetype is a big change. You can't get the specificity that way. I have complained before. It leaves problems as individual personal ones because the details of the politics and social conditions get stripped out. But that makes the politics slide in somewhat unexamined instead.

The 2014 TV show did not do well with race. I do not know where I would need to start to do well with race. But it needs doing carefully and consciously or all the horror cliches drag the old racisms along with them.

I have no conclusions yet, to thus post or otherwise.

But I am actually reading, and something that isn't Doctor Who or DC, so thoughts are being generated.

ish.

I went to the cemetery today and it was the first warm day of spring - even the wind was warm, and all the birds were going absolutely nuts, they were so loud. The snowdrops are in full bloom everywhere and they look so incredibly lovely against the leaf litter.

[Content Advisory: info that may be US government classified and controlled unclassified info leaked to news outlets, within. Actual status is unclear to me.]

Cuba has been effectively under siege by the US since at least January.

The US has cut off all Cuba's access to fuel imports. The situation is getting increasingly desperate. And a bunch of things just happened today. Yesterday, by the time I post this.

The US seized Venezuela January 3. Venezuela had been one of Cuba's two primary sources of oil, and once the US had control of Venezuela, the US halted shipments of Venezuelan oil to Cuba. Cuba's other main supplier of oil was Mexico, and on Jan 27, Mexico announced it was suspending oil shipments to Cuba. The Mexican president was evasive when asked point blank if the Trump administration was pressuring them into it, but Mexico has a critical trade deal with the US coming due for renegotiating, and dare not antagonize Trump.

Two days later, Jan 29, Trump issued an EO threatening any country that ships oil to Cuba with tariffs.

Apparently, there has been, since around that time, an undeclared US naval blockade of Cuba, to prevent oil shipments from getting through. The Trump administration hasn't admitted it, but Jan 23, Politico published a report that three anonymous sources in the Trump administration said that the administration was considering a "total blockade on oil imports" to Cuba, and a few days ago the NY Times published an analysis of ship movements in the Carribean indicating that there was indeed a naval blockade.

Cuba has received no foreign oil since its last shipment from Mexico Jan 9th.

As of Feb 3, the Financial Times was reporting that a consultancy was reporting that Cuba had "15 to 20 days" of oil left. Feb 5, the UN Secretary-General spokesperson issued a statement about a humanitarian disaster looming in Cuba.

Cuba of course did what it could to ration oil, but without enough of it, things began to fall apart. They started running out of fuel for cars, public transit, trucks to ship in food, garbage trucks to take the trash, and tractors to harvest crops. Cuba primarily generates electricity from oil-burning power plants so the electrical grid started failing and they started having blackouts. People have been cooking with whatever they can burn in the streets; there is no reliable refrigeration. Of course, they are also running out of food, and have difficulty accessing water. All elective surgeries have been canceled.

Feb 8, Mexico sent a delivery of humanitarian aid – 814 tons of food and hygeine supplies – to Cuba, to arrive later that week. This doesn't violate the US sanctions. Probably.

Feb 9, Cuba notifies all airlines that fly to Cuba that Cuban airports are running out of fuel and they will no longer be able to refuel in Cuba; Air Canada announces it's suspending flights to Cuba and sending empty flights to rescue Canadians in Cuba. Canada has been the largest source of tourists to Cuba, and the tourism industry is one of Cuba's main sources of foreign currency, without which it basically can't engage in international trade.

Also Feb 9, Mexican president Sheinbaum publically called the US's sanctions on Cuba "unjust" ["muy injusto"] for how they impacted the people of Cuba and pledged to keep finding a diplomatic solution with the US to get to ship Cuba oil.

Feb 13, the Ñico López oil refinery in Havana, Cuba, had a fire. The Cuban government reports that it was swiftly contained, and that the refinery continues to function, but that an investigation was opened into its cause.

Feb 22, shipping analysis firm Windward announced that they'd detected a Russian tanker (subsequently identified as The Sea Horse by Kplr) headed from the Mediterranean to Havana, likely carrying oil, putting it on a track to directly challenge the US Navy's blockade. It is due to reach Cuba in early March.

Feb 23, Canada announced it would be sending some sort of relief supplies to Cuba, but was cagey about just of what those supplies would consist.

Today, Feb 25:

The commenter VisualEconomik EN on YT argued today that Russia is unlikely to go to the mat for Cuba, for a variety of reasons, including that Russia is economically over-extended by its war in Ukraine; he also contends that Russia and China have no more patience for Cuban mismanagement and despite the tactical military advantage having turf within 100 miles of the US coastline, they're kind of done with dealing with Cuba's government. As to whether this is true, I can't say, but it sounded reasonable. This is good news if true, because otherwise, if either wanted to back Cuba against the US, this could be the match that sets off the powderkeg.
